Vampire Energy: The Appliances Draining Your Electricity

It’s “Vampire Energy” because it sucks your home of energy! No, really, leaving electronics and small appliances plugged in still uses energy. Just think about it, energy still flows through the electrical cord of plugged in chargers even when it is not connect to the phone. This is why it is ready for immediate use when we plug it in. Energy is constantly flowing and can account for about 20% of your monthly energy bill!

A few of the main culprits of energy vampires are;

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Televisions
  • DVD players and VCRs
  • Modems
  • Cable TV boxes
  • Cordless phones
  • Stereos and radios
  • Coffeemakers
  • Lamps
  • Toasters
  • iPods and electronic gadgets sapping energy from a plug-in transformer

A great way to passively unplug is to purchase an advanced power strip, which automatically turns off idle electronics. There are different tears that can be purchased such as timers or manual strips.

Or you can just use a normal power strip to plug in all the electronics. Then when they are no longer in use, shut off the power strip.

You can also just physically unplug the cords from the wall when you leave the house, go away for the weekend and even while you sleep.

This is an easy way to save money on your utility bill while also conserving energy to preserve the environment!
