No More Ice in Iceland

Iceland has just reported it’s first loss of a glacier due to global warming. Yes, a whole glacier that once spanned 15 square miles has now melted into a lake. What once was a vast glacier named, “Okjokull” is now a lake of melted ice amid a barren stretch of stone and dirt. It’s so bad, Iceland has change the name to “Ok” and dropped the “jokull” which means “glacier”. Being that glaciers are Icelands main tourist attraction, this could be devastating for their economy. Now all that is left is a plaque in its memory.

“In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path.”

Iceland held a funeral this past Sunday in remembrance of their iconic Okjökull glacier lost to a warming planet. The plaque sends a message to the future;

“In the next 200 years, all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it.”

This should be a rude awakening for how extreme human caused environmental devastation has become. The planet is definitely warming (if anyone had any doubts) and the environment is declining. We are past the warning stages. The time for change is now.
